Flair 2021 Newsletter

2020 will definitely be a year to remember and personally I am glad it is over. Covid-19 completely changed our lives in ways we could not imagine. With states shutting down, lockups in effect, our world and normalcy was shattered. Fortunately, Florida was able to reopen rather quickly and we definitely do have some normalcy back in our lives.

FLAIR Air Conditioning was considered an essential service as designated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and as such, we remained open to service our customers air conditioning, heating, and commercial refrigeration needs. We actively followed the CDC guidelines as it related to COVID-19 and continue to do so today. Our technicians are supplied with the necessary personal protective equipment to use as needed. We continue to request that any customer who calls for service inform us if they are ill or under the weather at any capacity. Our goal is ultimately to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Air Purification Effects on Mold, Viruses, Bacteria and Covid-19

Whole house air purification systems have been shown to be highly effective in neutralizing odors, air pollutants, VOC (chemical odors), smoke mold, bacteria, and viruses. Whole house air purification systems are installed usually in the supply duct work and are designed to disinfect the air as it circulates through the ventilation system.

Most use a UV light for disinfection. Every microorganism requires a specific UVC dosage for inactivation. Up until now, it has been known that whole house air purification systems with UV have been effective against similar pathogens like Covid-19, but none were specifically tested for Covid-19. Covid-19 is a member of the enveloped RNA Coronavirus sub-family and tests have been validated showing a 99% reduction on similar viruses. In March of 2020, RGF specifically tested their Reme Halo product against the SARS COV-2 virus, commonly known as Covid-19, by a third party. The study showed the Reme Halo product achieved an efficiency of 99.9% against the virus. When purchasing these products, you can now be assured that you have the best whole house purification system available for killing all known viruses and keeping your air clean and purified.

Air Conditioning and Your Health

Air Conditioning definitely has a positive effect on our health as long as the system is properly maintained. A/C enables you to sleep better when temperatures are hot and humid. A/C allows us to be more alert and function more effectively while driving, shopping, dining, etc.

A study by Harvard in 2018 proved that students who lived in dormitories without A/C did worse on cognitive tests than those who had cool and refreshing central air, particularly in the afternoons. Living and working in the heat is not ideal for your brain when the body can not cool off on its own, which can be dangerous in high temperatures. Keeping your air conditioner properly serviced will help you stay healthier.

New Paint May Reduce Air Conditioning

Engineers at Purdue University have created a white paint that can keep surfaces up to 18°F cooler than their surroundings. This new paint virtually absorbs no solar energy, but instead sends the heat away from the surface, thus preventing heat from being stored and the need for air conditioning to remove this heat.

Typical white paint reflects just 80-90% of sunlight but absorbs the solar energy. This new paint is 95.5% reflective and radiates the solar heat away from the surface thus maintaining a lower temperature than surrounding areas.

This new paint not only sends heat away from surfaces, but sends the solar heat away from Earth, where it can travel indefinitely at the speed of light. The heat does not get trapped within our atmosphere where it could add to global warming. If the paint were applied to a variety of surfaces, including roads, roof tops and cars, worldwide, it could actually help the Earth’s surface get cooler.

The paint took 6 years to develop using studies dating back to the 1970’s. The paint is made of a special formulation of calcium carbonate, a compound commonly found in rocks and seashells. Researchers indicate this paint could be cheaper to produce than commercial alternative.

A/C Facts

As it gets warmer, we use more air conditioning, and this leads to warmer temperatures since 60% of U.S. electricity is produced by fossil fuels.

1957 was the first-time peak electricity usage occurred in the summer, not winter, due to air conditioning.

The local Swiss government in Geneva, which has a warmer climate than most of the U.S., banned air conditioning except by special permission.

As the use of air conditioning increases worldwide, it is estimated that its use will be about 13% of all electricity produced.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve your air conditioning and heating needs. We sincerely appreciate your business.
